Paperwork Requirements to get married in Italy



Do you wish to get marry in Italy?..

Italian law requires each non-italian wishing to be married in Italy to a Certificate of non impediment or equivalent documentation.

The following documents are riquired in order:

Unsigned affidavit;

Valid Canadian passport;

Proof of Canadian citizenship ( Canadian birth certificate );

Complete details of the future bride;

Differentes rules and regulations are in force for these couples that have already been married. In the mentioned case the couple wishing to marry in italy would have to obtain:

Final divorce decree or death certificate of previous bride or groom;

Parents' consent ( if the person is under marriageable age ).

Religious Ceremonies

Roman-Catholic

In the case of a religious marriage ceremony to be performed at a Roman-Catholic Church, there is to present the declaration issued by the Embassy and legalized by the Prefettura, to the Parish Priest in Italy. The Parish Priest will register and pass all the wedding documents to the competent Italian authorities.

Non Roman-Catholic

Weddings performed at non-Roman Catholic houses of worship require a civil ceremony before.
